If you would like to learn more about the different ways fleas can impact your or your patient’s health – this lecture if for you.

6:30-7:30pm - Ticks: Know Your Enemy
In sports, you want to know your opponent.  So you study and learn everything you can learn about them.  How has the other team historically played? Are their new players on the team that you need to be aware of?  Sometimes you may even study video to analyze what are your opponent’s strengths? The opponents’ weaknesses?  The more a team learns about their competitor, the greater their competitive edge.  What we do as veterinarians is really not much different when it comes to diseases and parasites, except the stakes are much greater.
I am going to ask you to sit back, relax and think about one thing that you can implement in your practice tomorrow to give you and your patients a competitive advantage over ticks.  Now, let's learn about our enemy…

  • Biology of common ticks
  • Adult tick identification
  • Where and when ticks are present
  • Overview of important tick-borne infections
  • Strategies to control ticks on pets
  • Case challenges
7:30-8:30pm Which Tick is Which Lab
This will be part 2 of the previous lecture. In this lecture/lab we will review some cases that we may not have time to cover from the previous lecture “Ticks: Know Your Enemy” and then break into groups to practice identifying the ticks that we see here in the Midwest.
