The aim of this presentation is to review how ultrasound can be used to identify normal anatomy and injury associated with soft tissue structures of the equine distal limb (carpus/hock down). This presentation will also expand on use of ultrasound to visualize normal anatomy and soft tissue injury associated with the equine stifle joint.

Ultrasonography is a widely used non-invasive diagnostic technique for the evaluation of equine abdominal and thoracic diseases in the field and referral settings. This lecture provides the equine practitioners with the theoretical knowledge needed to make the most of their abilities and ultrasound machine, in the diagnosis and treatments of various equine thoracic and abdominal conditions.

This session will detail strategies for equine ocular examination that will enhance ease of seeing lesions, maximize use of common ophthalmic instrumentation, and discuss enhanced diagnostic modalities such as tonometry and ultrasound.
