Officers
David Whitney, DVM
President

Dr. David (Dan) Whitney received his DVM from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. He worked for and then became a partner at Noyes Animal Hospital in Illinois before opening Jordan Creek Animal Hospital in West Des Moines in 1991. Dr. Whitney is active not only with the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, but also with the American VMA, Greater Des Moines VMA and the American Animal Hospital Association.


Teresa Carmichael, DVM
President-Elect

Dr. Teresa Carmichael is a partner at Mahaska Veterinary Clinic, a mixed animal practice, in Oskaloosa, Iowa since 1992. She received a B.S. in Animal Science before graduating from Iowa State with her DVM in 1990.

She and her husband Jim are most proud of their three children, Claire -12, Sam-10 and Alan-8.  They live on acreage in rural Mahaska County with various assorted critters, most being special needs animals.

William Williams, DVM
Vice President

Dr. William (Bill) Williams graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at theUniversity of Missouri in 1995 and has practiced in the Des Moines area since thattime. He is a member of the AVMA and AAHA and has been a regular speaker incompanion animal ethics at Iowa State’s CVM. He and his wife Amanda have two children. His interests outside of professional life include golfing, fishing, cooking and doingwhat he can to be a good husband and father.


James West, DVM
Immediate Past President

Dr. James West received his DVM in 1971 and completed his residency in Theriogenology and Veterinary Clinical Science in 1975, all at Iowa State University. He served as a Captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps from 1971 to 1973, graduate student & clinical veterinarian at ISU from 1973 to 1975 and Assistant Professor of Theriogenology at ISU from 1975 to 1976. From 1976 to 1980, Dr. West was a partner at Waverly Veterinary Clinic and in 1979 he established and owned Westwood Embryo Services until 2005.  At that time, Dr. West returned to ISU as Clinician/Director of the Embryo Transfer Unit and currently serves as Director of Food Supply Veterinary Services.

Dr. West has served on the Manual Committee of the International Embryo Transfer Society, the Board of Directors and committees of the American Embryo Transfer Association and is currently President of the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association. He has received the Distinguished Alumnus of Department of Dairy Science from ISU in 2002 and the Stange Award at ISU in 2004.
