IVMA Foundation Corporation Minutes

Gateway Hotel & Conference Center – Ames, IA

The IVMA Foundation annual corporation meeting was held on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 in the Meadow Room of the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center in Ames, Iowa.  The meeting was called to order by Dr. Alden Frischmeyer, Vice President of the Board of Directors, at 3:30 p.m.  Present for the meeting were Drs. Alden Frischmeyer, Nathan Hansen, Jennifer Schleining, Jodie Pettit, Hans Koehnk, Ryan Steen, Bill Williams, Beau Bosma, Arlyn Omtvedt, Nathan Bye, Bruce Tabke, Vince Collison, Elaine Schope, John Moellers, Forrest Whitford, Mitch Hiscocks, Grant Dewell, Brenda Bright, Joel Loomis, Randy Ackman, Mike White, Brenda Flaming, James Berger, Erik Laumann, Jerry Katzer, Dave Larson, Kylee Thomas and Louise Fuller. Also present were IVMA Delegate Dr. Danelle Bickett-Weddle, Alternate Delegate Dr. Charles Lemme, Executive Director Dr. Tom Johnson and Assistant Executive Director Dr. Randy Wheeler. Invited guests included Dr. Clark Fobian, President of the AVMA and Dr. John Howe, District VII Representative to the AVMA Executive Board.  Dr. Frischmeyer reviewed the Board of Directors’ members and their expiration dates.

The Corporation accepted Dr. Schleining’s resignation to allow her to serve as Vice President for the Iowa Veterinary Medical Association (IVMA).

There were two nominations for the Board of Directors. There were no nominations from the floor. The Corporation elected Dr. Amanda Fales-Williams to serve a five-year term; Dr. Abigail Bowers was elected to fill the unexpired term of Dr. Schleining for four years.

The Corporation reviewed and approved the financial reports, the Fellows report and the scholarship report. The Corporation approved the minutes of the meetings of the Board of Directors held on January 8 and August 9, 2013. 

Dr. Frischmeyer explained to the members a program to increase awareness and activities of the Foundation. A sub-committee comprised of Dr. Scott Curry, Dr. Al Frischmeyer and Dr. Randy Wheeler is exploring ideas for additional scholarships, indigent care cases, support spay/neuter programs, and expanding the activities of the Foundation to  include additional fundraisers which may include shooting, golfing, running and biking.

Dr. Frischmeyer reported we have 145 Foundation Fellows, 3 Foundation Advocates and one Diamond Fellow.  The Corporation discussed the Foundation Focus which is the newsletter which is sent to all members of the IVMA. 

The Corporation presented $35,000 in scholarships to students from the College of Veterinary Medicine.  The Corporation reviewed the recipient list and the thank you letters received from those recipients. 

Dr. Randy Wheeler reported that the IVMA and the Animal Rescue League have not been able to develop a satisfactory Memorandum of Understanding with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and plans for an emergency trailer with the Iowa Department of Agriculture have now been abandoned.  We are exploring other possibilities.

Gateway Hotel & Conference Center – Ames, IA

The IVMA Foundation annual corporate meeting was held on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 in the Meadow Room of the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center in Ames, Iowa.  The meeting was called to order by Dr. Scott Curry, President of the Board of Directors.  Members of the Board of Directors include President Scott Curry, Vice President Valerie Enlow, Secretary Treasurer Alden Frischmeyer, Board members Bruce Leuschen, Nathan Hansen and ex officio member Claire Andreasen.  

The corporation approved the minutes from the meeting of September 14, 2011 and reviewed the Board of Directors minutes from August 10, 2012.  

There were two nominations for a Board member to replace retiring member, Dr. Bruce Leuschen – Dr. Terri Lechtenberg and Dr. Jennifer Schleining. The corporation moved that nominations cease and elected Dr. Jennifer Schleining as the new Director for the IVMA Foundation Board of Directors.

The corporation reviewed the financials, the Fellows report, approved the tiered giving suggestions, reviewed the activities and scholarship report and approved the raffle process for Annual Meeting.

Dr. Curry reported the Iowa Department of Agriculture has purchased and is in the process of remodeling a trailer to be used for emergency response. IVMA Foundation and AVMA Foundation will contribute money to help equip and remodel the trailer. An MOU for use of the trailer by ARL and IVMA has been signed by IVMA and is awaiting signature by ARL and Iowa Dept. of AG. 

The meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m.  All IVMA Foundation Corporation members attended the ribbon crossing and dedication of the new Hixson-Lied Companion Animal Hospital at Iowa State University.

The Iowa Veterinary Medical Association Foundation annual corporate meeting was held on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center in Ames, Iowa.  President Scott Curry called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.  Present were Drs. Scott Curry, Bruce Leuschen, Valerie Enlow, Alden Frischmeyer, Claire Andreasen, Teresa Carmichael, William Williams, Jodie Pettit, Beau Bosma, Arlyn Omtvedt, Nathan Bye, Vincent Collison, Elaine Schope, John Moellers, Forrest Whitford, Mitch Hiscocks, Terry Engelken, Kenneth May, Joel Loomis, Ryan Steen, Michael White, Brenda Flaming, James Berger, James Hoffmann, David Larson, Kylee Thomas, Louise Fuller and Tom Johnson.

 

Dr. Curry presented the corporation with a list of officers and their terms.  The corporation approved the minutes of the meeting on September 15, 2010.

 

Dr. Nathan Hansen was nominated to serve on the Board of Directors for a five year term.  Dr. Jim Kenyon’s term will expire at the end of this meeting.  Dr. Hansen was elected unanimously to the position on the Board of Directors of the IVMA Foundation.

 

The corporation approved the Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets for the Foundation.

 

Dr. William Williams reported on his RAGBRAI fund raising effort for the IVMA Foundation and SCAVMA Josh Fund. Dr. Williams rode 4 days of RAGBRAI to increase awareness for the Foundation and the Josh Fund. Dr. Williams was able to raise $527.50 for the Foundation and $637.50 for the Josh Fund. Dr. Williams was hosted at IVMA member veterinarians’ homes during his ride.

 

Dr. Curry presented a report on the activities and scholarships offered by the corporation in the past year, discussed the development of the emergency response trailer in cooperation with the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, the American Veterinary Medical Foundation and the Iowa Department of Agriculture.

 

Dr. Curry reported that nearly all of the 100 tickets available for the raffle have been sold.  The raffle winners will be announced at the lunch on Friday, September 16th.  Winners will be paid $3,000 and $1,500 respectively. The Foundation will be responsible for sales tax and other minor expenses associated with the raffle. The remaining funds will go the Foundation endowment.

 

The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
